Iirc you have a sort of " Economy 7 " type tariff Mo? I take it the storage heaters are on a separate circuit, if they are and there's a spare socket on the same circuit you could plug in an auxiliary fan heater for example overnight to " overheat " the house with the result that the storage heaters last longer during the day and you use less peak rate electricity 🤔

It’s Economy 10 and they come on for 3 different periods which keeps the house quite warm. To be honest the “saving” on off peak really isn’t that great anyway. I keep living in hope that electricity prices might fall at some point to encourage more people away from gas and oil.

I think they are knocking the VAT off electricity beginning next month but that's only 5%. The insidious thing has been the steady increase in the Standing Charge which is supposed to pay for network maintenance but the DNO's which charge it are very profitable, the two Scottish ones making £1.6 and £2.4 Billion respectively last year.

Storage heaters are great if used cleverly, but do guzzle the juice when they're actually on.

Have you considered an electric car tariff? Typically the leccy will be about quarter the normal unit price during the overnight period, and that'd be the time to spank the shortage heaters and then revel in the toastiness all day. I make sure our washing machine and the like are programmed to come on during that period, and running the AC overnight in hot weather is also very inexpensive because of the E car tariff.

What Drago said. Mrs Tkk switched seamlessly into putting the washing machine and dishwasher on timed to come on during the overnight cheap rate. We have the water heater come on and also charge the house battery which has made a significant difference.

I got up in the night to point Percy and woke up the whole street as I screamed in terror when I stood on the black dog sleeping invisbily on the dark grey carpet in the unlit bedroom and went base over apex.

A vision impaired friend of mine who I used to ride tandem with until he left Victoria was very pleased that his guide dog was a very light coloured Lab.

Bonjour.
Mrs G is going to Manchester tomorrow night with our daughter to see André Rieux concert . This is the last of her 80th birthday present from last year.
On Saturday, I will drive to Tean, near Stoke, for the week end to bring her back on Sunday.
She is taking the train to Crewe tomorrow morning.
Today is a choice between helping with the gardening ( which I am not keen on ) or painting a wall in the kitchen to finish it off . Sadly, the decision won't be mine.
