I truly don't believe that's true in every case. I happily accept there are those who don't use any BBC services but feel they're a very small minority.

I would favour a Pay Wall.

Problem with that - which by the way I think is the right way to go - is that a lot of people who pay the License Fee
would refuse to pay for the Pay Wall

and hence the actual price would end up being higher than the current license

which would generate headlines for the Media about how the BBC are ripping off Britain"
or some such

But I think it needs to be done in some way at some point

I would not like to be the politician that makes it happen!!

Whoa! It's not the BBC "at it again" but a cross-party government committee considering proposals for the renewal of the BBC Charter.

The current cost is £180pa, the proposal would drop the charge to £132pa.

There are 29m households in the UK, 3.7m don't pay a licence fee. That's 13% of the population who claim not to use BBC products. Presumably they only ever listen to commercial radio????? ??

We haven't had a television for over 25 years and only listen to Classic FM.

If you look in that dark corner of your living room you will see a box with a handle. If you wind that handle you will hear a crackly voice saying "this is radio Luxembourg "..... that is a radio.

Not in my gaff, I bought a new one 2 or 3 years ago as part of a survival package
if there was a war, I tried it, yes it worked and that is the last time I use a radio.
The one in the car I have never used.

We have a wind up solar power radio. It lives in our pavilion on the allotment. Once the solar power battery runs down, we wind it up via a handle.

It receives digital and analogue.......come the apocalypse we're OK!!!!!!

Here: we don't listen to BBC radio at all, not even in the car. Haven't done for years. We do listen to a wide array of commercial channels, though.

The few people I personally know - including me - who boycott the TV licence genuinely dont watch live tv or the player.

After all, it was crap enough that I didn't want to pay to watch it so,how would being free make it any more palatable?

Im a radio fiend, watch very little on screen but the wireless is on from the moment I arise until I walk up the wooden hill to Bedfordshire.

What little on screen I watch is almost all Paramount+ with a little ITV and U player. Mrs D prefers Prime and Mini D has Disney+. We dont mind paying for stuff we're actually likely to watch, and as we were disinclined to watch the BBC we stopped paying for it.

No politics, no statement of ideology, we were simply not using it so binned it off the same way me might an old magazine sub or gym membership.

need to go and get the kids (grandson and his cousin) from Primary school this afternoon
might rain - which might be a problem as the cousin gets out a bit later now - so I have to teh the grandson - then wait a bit

and very very slightly more parents turn up in cars if it is raining
so parking is even more of a pain - although I park a fair way away where the idiots don;t park
(before someone says it - they live too far away to just walk there - nearest Catholic school and not my decision!)
