Ive never tried quordle, I must check it out.
Out of interest and just to compare to OUR** schools days.....roughly how far away is the school?
**I realise its a different world now with a gazillion cars flying around plus the thought of paedos so there is nothing judgemental in the question.

It's about 2 miles

so I could walk it in half an hour

with a 5 year old tired after school who is used to being picked up by car - a lot longer!!
and his cousin is "not used to being made to do what he is told" - shall we say

Personally I would be thinking of bikes in a few years

but the problem with being a grandparent who only picks them up once a week - and not every other week - is that you don;t get to choose things like that

Their other grand parents normally walk there because they live a lot closer that the parents do - which is where we take them because the other 2 turn up there after a while
one comes on "his bus" from his special school
the other is at Secondary school and uses the train and walks the rest

OK - Had second coffee and woken SWMBO

Kids coming round about lunchtime and they will be staying the night so have to sort some things out

never sure why we tidy the house up when the come - we always have to tidy it up again when they leave!!!

anyway - we shall see!

I had a 3.5 mile walk each way at 5 years old. My grandad would escort me in and walk me back, he never owned a motor vehicle, so he walked twice as far as me in his 60s walking home and then back again.

That was every day. Wind, which was pretty much every day on Shetland, rain, snow, and for half of the school year it was dark going both ways on unlit single-track roads. Back then there were no excuses - you just did it.

My grandad later took a job in Kent as a park keeper and had a 30 mile ride each way, every day, in his 60s, on a sit up and beg rod braked bicycle, and even continued to to do while he had stomach cancer, right up until a few weeks before his death when he became simply too ill to do so.

These are the reasons I laugh hilariously at the excuses able bodied people make to drive a few miles to collect able bodied children. So the kid might be a bit tired and grumpy? Boo hoo.

Its laziness coinciding with convenience, nothing more, nothing less.

you remember I mentioned my "boss" at AgeUK has been constantly checking her daughter's location as she has just started university and her Mum is worried about her

Little amusing bit - she was saying how her daughter keeps staying out late
but the other night she stayed in her room all evening and night - and her Mum was relieved that she had calmed down a bit
so - I want a medal for NOT saying why you are all thinking!!

anyway - I was just wondering about GPS spoofing and looked it up - just out of interest

Yeah right - "relocate and want to get ahead" - that is the first thing that occurred to me for reasons to want to spoof you location as well!!


I can think of several good reasons
and several more bad reasons
but that is a VERY minor one!!

Just been typing into another thread and part of it was the word anti-cycling

which I mistyped

one of the options on the spell checker was "ant-cycling"

what in the name of all the Gods is ant-cycling????

I mean - I have a picture in my mind

Most will know but its the harvest moon tonight and as the sky should be clear it will be a good view.
Moon rises shortly before 1800 and be at its highest around 23.30.

Just noticed a local much loved Dad, brother and Uncle has died in a colllision involved an ebike

which is very sad


except that it was him riding the "ebike" and "it involved a bus"
and the "ebike" was one of those electric motorbikes - like a Sur-Ron

and the article lists him as "of no fixed abode"

so - very sad for the poor kids who have to grow up without their dad

but on the other hand .......
