Just back from the meeting very frustrating. It wasn’t good news, the volunteers will no longer be doing any of the work they do now ie brush clearing /small tree removal and general reserve management . She could not/ would not say who is going to be doing this work in future. As I said all very corporate. They can run the trust how they want , but be open about it . There are no state secrets that needed to be kept secret.

It left a real bad taste in my mouth . She mentioned some community groups that work under the WWT banner I could join , but it’s things like bat or hedgehog monitoring, plant surveys or measuring old trees . All very worthwhile things, but not really my thing , I like more practical stuff. So sadly I think my volunteering with the WWT is coming to end .
Luckily I still have volunteering with council reserves and I might go back to The Friends of Brandon wood . They are their own boss ( they bought the woods in the 90s with a community grant from the government) . Thats good as you get to play with mini diggers/tractors and a band saw 😀 and its only a mile from my house . Or I might follow up on my thought to see if I could volunteer for the Canals and river trust .
Time will tell .
Have a good evening folks 😀

Did a " Mo " this morning and wandered with a friend into Poole the back way via Hamworthy beach. It's only about 3 miles away but it's the first time I have walked along that particular stretch in the nigh on 50 years that I've lived in Poole🤔
Finished with coffee and almond croissant in a small Italian run café before heading home.

Looks beautiful.

Does Poole still have that luxury boat/yacht builders ?
I have probably said before but I did my 8 day SCUBA training at Poole. Some happy memories.

Yes " Sunseeker " is still there Dave. The company i worked for did a bit of work for them, mainly to do with the electrical systems. You can see the workshop from the quay and there's several of them parked up on the other side of the quay. Where did you do your SCUBA training? Was it Hamworthy or did they take you out in the harbour / Swanage area?

Good late afternoon/early evening. It's grey and drizzling now. So, better late than never. I wasn't going to post today, in fact ever again a few hours ago. I just felt like that. The last week or so has been dreadful, I'm very tired and not coping with everything that's happening and yet Mrs P appears to just breeze along........while the slightest hiccup threatens to tip me over the edge.

Weird........suddenly a couple of hours ago I began to feel so much, much better. Very weird.

that's annoying
especially with the secrecy

My volunteering with AgeUK is also changing
they want the "digital" (i.e. phones, tablets and computery things) to be more "internal referrals"
i.e. rather than concentrate on offering to help any older people who want help with phones and all that
to concentrate on helping people who are already AgeUK clients for caring and all that

but most of those people I have talked to have other priorities which as much more important
and I get the felling that the "have been persuaded" to take the help with their phone or whatever
and do not really have any need for it in their mind

anyway - we shall see

I was 'fortunate' enough to go into the building and see them working on a couple on beautiful crafts.
The actual scuba school was near the harbour. Some of the training eg search and rescue was around the pier and they took us out on a RIB for our deeper (30 mtr) dives.
I could have done it up here over 12/18 months but I decided to do a concentrated 8 day course.
