Nice neck of the woods, Wollengong, actually the coast road in places is quite scenic. So much to see.
Talking of customs. They are extremely strict. We got pulled aside on one visit and asked what we had in our bags, this was after they had been x-rayed. Had we anything to declare or illegal ? No, we had`nt. We had to unpack and they rummaged through our things. What they found was in fact a mini tripod for the camera. They thought that it was a martial art weapon. There were no apologies, just a "you can go over there and repack". We felt like criminals.

I keep stressing to my grandson.....take ABSOLUTELY NO FOOD......even a left over sandwich or apple from the plane will get you a hefty fine.

Back from Aldi.
I skipped HomeBargains and Iceland as weather was so poor and both those stores are off the main A49 which is bad at the best of times.

Yep, right there. Another story. Back in 1995 our Australian friends brought over some of their local honey. When I went to see them in 1997 I took them some of ours. Well, that was the idea but had to chuck it at Sydney airport. Lesson learnt !

Hope he enjoys his trip.

If i understand correctly..... you could have taken a commercially packed, unopened jar of honey but not ANYTHING that you have cooked or made.

That is what I thought but no. It was a local honey. I can`t remember where I bought it. The bottom line was no. At the time there was a problem with Aussie bee population being decimated by a pest. Our Australian friends said the same. They were very environmentally aware of things.
