Started young, and still going.

Barnet,
The washing machine has been doing it's stuff, the washing is out on the line now. Nice and sunny with a good breeze, should dry nicely. The rest of the week looks like bad weather.
Downstairs has been vacuumed and the dog has had a short walk.
Now time for a coffee, and then I'll be out on the bike with a cat poo sample to drop into the vets, and pick up some more medication for Poppy.
Some things to pick up from the shops on the way round, then i might just have to have a pit stop in the Mitre for some refreshments on the way home.
Another busy day in paradise :cuppa:

I don't know where you live, but that seems quite high, I had a full rewire done when I did up the house after talking to the electrician about some of the dodgy electrics I had noticed around the place. He also installed all the new lights, fitted a power shower, wired in all the kitchen appliances and move some of the sockets around fitting new socket boxes and faceplates to all the sockets and switches, he also rerouted the sky cable for me as the sky installer wouldn't go into the loft and feed it down the bare studwork between the living room and the hall. All this was a couple of years ago and I know prices have gone up but I was less than half your lower quote.
That’s what what I was thinking , the contractor emergency electrician that came out to me on Tuesday said it should cost in the 5 to 6 grand range and said not to use the company that had sent him as they would charge over £12000 and they did .
The thing is I am sat here with only two electric radiators to heat the house so I need it doing asap and the £9000 quote electrician can do it in the next couple of weeks and even though I was impressed with him , I think he has inflated the price because of this . Oh well I’ve got two more electricians coming to day to quote and another one on Monday so we will see what they quote .
To be honest the electrician coming on Monday is our preferred option as he knows mrs exlaser and he has done work at the sailing club too but the problem with him is he cannot start work until the 23th of November.

Well some good news for a change.
The 1st sign of eye problems was the optician diagnosing glaucoma and referring me. The hospital couldnt determine the severity until I had both cataracts done.....hence the double op'.
Today's follow up shows the glaucoma to be "not as bad as feared" and the cataract op a success.
I am being referred back to the 'glaucoma team' who probably dont need to see me for 6 months. That, as they say, will do me.

Did you read about the museum in Glasgow that has removed an ancient Egyptian mummy from display?
Its been on display for 200 years but 'they" have now agreed thay dont have consent from the dead person or the next of kin 🤭.
You could make it up.

Good afternoon. Blue skies. Grey skies. Sun. Cloud. Rain. What's a boy to wear.

After a busy week I'm having a relax. On the train to Manchester to meet my FA. She's a good friend, very supportive and suggested we meet for coffee and chat. No money. Just a social thing. You don't get many FAs like that. I suspect we may touch on annuities briefly but only that.

Spent a lot of time updating passwords this morning. I knew I has some pretty poor ones so this week's PHP issue was the stimulus to do this.

I'm hungry so changing at Bolton means I can grab a sandwich. 👍

Off to Horner woods to take the pup for a walk and then lunching at the top Ship in Porlock, or the Stag in Dunster; haven't decided yet.

Your mention of Porlock rang a bell so I hade a rummage and found my SWCP log book:

" 28th May 2007, Left Minehead at 10:20, steep climb to the ridge, Made good time to Porlock and had soft drink and sandwich in pub. Decided to press on to Lynmouth arriving at 7:30pm. Found a B+B, no single room but had double for £35. Landlady offered me a sherry before I turned in "

Can't remember the pub in Porlock, it's been too many years. The B+B for £35 seems a bargain, though that's in 2007 prices 🤔

Hope this link works for you. Its about Carter Bridge on the Sankey Canal, Widnes.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1Bv2JEvb4P/

Thanks - that's the one at Spike Island I think

Described as a swing bridge
but it is the one that WAS a swing bridge and apparently the new one was all sorted and ready to go
but the installation was delayed by Covid

Then nothing happened for years
then they put one in that is not and will not swing - just a bridge

it is well made - but shows how committed the counsel is to restoring the canal

the boat club keep a few boats in the locks because apparently they reckon that is the locks to the sea are empty "they" will roll up with a few lorry loads of "stuff" and fill the locks up and seal them off
which would save having to keep them working

There are other stories as well

but anyway - thanks - I keep wondering about going along to help them - but don;t!!!

Afternoon noon all . That’s another two electricians seen , now waiting on the quotes .

In some good news , I have dismantled the front of the gas fire and have managed to light the pilot light using a lighter . 😀
At least the lounge will be warm now and i can now use the electric radiators in other areas downstairs. 😀

Cold & wet.

Up stupid early (for me) as I am off to Blackpool Victoria Hospital for my monthly check-up. Made bearable by the lovely staff & the friendly atmosphere they create.

Have a good day, all.

Yeah, they're great people there. I've been a few times in 2016 for heart stuff. Resolved. More recently four times in 12 months as I had volunteered to join a bowel cancer preventative trial. Free colonoscopy included!! 🤣
