On the subject of the Bard, I only really "got" Shakespeare when we read Antony & Cleopatra for A-level, largely thanks to my English teacher, who must have been teaching the text for 20 years or more but was still moved almost to tears by the sheer beauty of the language. His passion for Shakespeare really brought it alive for me. The Burton/Taylor take on the story seemed a bit tame after that.
