Edit: I think I read that the name 'Finisterre' means end of the lane.
Lands End, basically. Or end of the earth/land/world ... could be translated various ways. The Spanish one is in the north west (I used to live not too far away). The French have one too, and I think also Mexico.

Thanks Fnaar. I did mean 'land' not 'lane'. Honest.

OK, who can name the link here with Billy Casper?

I was about to post that, but from a different angle.... Whenever I hear mention of the shipping forecast I think of "Kes"

For those who have never seen the film "Kes" or read the book Barry Hines "Kestrel for a knave" - do so. One of the first books I read that actually had an effect.

The way that the register scene is written / played and he wittily changes the list of names by adding the third in the series from the shipping forecast is used to show that he is in fact intelligent.

Moving scene from a brilliant film and book.. and well worth the effort to track down and watch / read

apparently they've renamed the area Finistere to Fitzroy.

I've no idea why as I'm not a sailing buff nor Francophile but I was quite miffed by that.

One of the above is Finistere, the other isn't.

Who, me ?
Without looking it up do Dogger Fisher and German bite still exist? Or am i on the wrong subject?

Dogger was/is named for the Dogger Bank - a shallower area in the North Sea about 80 miles east of the mouth of the Humber. Used to be rich fishing grounds once upon a time.

Yes they do, although it's German Bight, not bite. Can't remember what a Bight is, think it might be a stretch of water, unsurprisingly.

A bight is a bay or (in knotting) a loop. The German Bight is the big bay giving access to Wilhelmshaven and Bremerhaven.

You win. The prize is a kestrel. If I can catch one.
