Just bought a pair of Barbour slippers in their sale - pricey but one has to keep up one's standards.

Foul things, never worn them, bare tootsies all day long for me. You could probably use the skin on my soles as a shield for re-entry into Earth’s atmosphere though.

When I was a kid I spent all summer holidays on my grandparents croft. Never wore shoes and after the first week could walk on anything [ never tried hot coals ] within reason.
