The bed is metric king size and I do have a fitted sheet which doesn't fit properly! It is slightly too big so it comes loose during the night and creases up. I don't know if it is made to the wrong size or just not accurately made to the correct size. I will buy a couple more in the correct size.

Since my original posts I have discovered that I am much more comfortable after moving my sleeping position over by a few cms. I think that I must have been in a bad position relative to the mattress springs. An expensive mattress wouldn't have uncomfortable springs, but I can put up with the cheap mattress and playing 'dodge the springs'!

Mine's an imperial mattress, and metric sheets are so tight that you can hear the seams popping & cracking if you force them on. If I were to lay on them I reckon they'd split wide open, so I just use flat sheets instead (which are themselves getting harder to find). These days most bed linen is sold as a set: duvet cover, pillowcases, and fitted sheet, apart from which, I don't use a duvet.

Aldi are currently selling bedding. Annoyingly, king size duvet cover and pillowcase sets, but double size fitted sheets!

Argos have a good range as do Next and M&S. I always buy the deep fitted sheets as you can tuck them in much better under the mattress

The ironing's not the problem as nothing gets ironed... with the occasional exception of my linen clothes.

If you stayed in a hotel and the sheets were not ironed would you think that was ok.
You need to treat yourselves better.

Given that I have slept on my own sheets for over 4 decades and have never used an iron... of course it would be ok.

I would draw the line at stains or bedbugs on hotel bedding though!
