In the meanwhile the French refer to them as "EIIL" ( L'Etat islamique en Irak et en Syrie)) or rather did until they decided that in line with many Arabic news broadcasters they would now refer to the organisation as DAIISH or Da'esh (abbreviation of Dawlat al-Islamiyah f'al-Iraq wa al-Sham)

It does annoy me. I appreciate they want to be seen to denounce them but it comes across as petty and unproffesional in my opinion. I wish the news could nust be factual without all the sugarcoating and spin... World peace would be good while I'm at it.

This entire debate, such as it is, surely lays to rest the idea that it can ever be any such thing. Even the decision as to what is 'news' is inherently political.

IS. I don't give a tuppeny whatever about what IS say of themselves, but "Islamic" they are not, and a recognised "State" they are not. "So-called" kinda captures that essence in an accurate nutshell.
