Is anyone else getting tired of the BBC referring to those naughty IS boys as "the so-called Islamic State"?

I mean, do they insist on referring to the Tories the "so-called conservative party"? The "so-called NHS"? The "so called Donald Trump"?

Whether Auntie likes it or not, Islamic State is what the nutters have decided to call themselves, so why not just flipping well call them the same?

And why are they always "militants" or "insurgents"? They're bleeding terrorists Aunty Beeb, so why don't the mentioned tofu eaters at Broadcasting House stop trying to take a political stance with their subtle use of language, and start calling a spade a spade? Be nice to hear the actual news for a change rather than a sanitised dumbed down left wing opinion of the news.

Yes it's irritating, but something issued by them a while back said it was so as not to give credence to the name. Personally I think it would have made more sense to add 'group' or something similar onto the end.

The "so-called IRA" never happened.

If there is such an instruction on the basis of not wishing to give credence then a) it's just making the Beeb sound stupid, and b) it's taking political position, which is a bit naughty. It not the job of the beeb to give credence or not, but to report the news.

They call themselves Islamic State. IS, ISIS, ISIL, Daesh are all names attributed for convenience or identification by outsiders.

The IRA had a long established identity, but the PIRA didn't when it appeared and neither does the Real IRA, but they haven't earned the "so-called" prefix.

I think this came from Cameron initially. The reason is probably because most of the world, especially Islamic, doesn't believe them to be very Islamic, they are hijacking and taking ownership of a label.

As a hypothetical analogy, if a few deranged Scottish terrorists started bombing and beheading English folk, against the wishes & desires of the rest of the Scottish nation, we'd probably object to them calling themselves 'Scottish State'

'Daesh' would be preferable as it doesn't give IS any legitimacy and is as I understand it, an insult to them.
Only if you mishear it and it's not that insulting. Daesh is basically an abbreviation of the Arabic for ISIL, so has the same problems, but some people use it mainly because ISIL don't like it. More info at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Name_of_the_Islamic_State_of_Iraq_and_the_Levant#Daesh_and_variants

The AP's "Islamic State group" seems better to me, so of course the BBC isn't using it ;)

Nothing wrong with eating tofu Drago. I don' t think they have made it compulsory yet. Although, my missus used to work there and she loves the stuff. Sorry, a bit off topic.
