As a result of having two full panniers on my bike for the 50 mile Pedal for Scotland event I had a few comments from other entrants suggesting my volume of luggage was a bit over the top. After I explained it had taken me three days of cycling to get to the start and would take the same to get home they got the message.

About 150 miles each way to a Sportive!
Last year saw the Wiggle No Excuses advertised, looked like a good ride & it was to raise money for the NSPCC so signed up along with a friend who lives in Crawley...
Only as it turned out it was Grafham in Cambridgeshire, not Grafham in Surrey.
Didn't like the 4am start, but ti was a good day out

well, strangely, to York for the FNRttC (and the recce). The Manchester to Blackpool FNRttC probably runs it close. I did once take a train to Jasper from Vancouver to cycle the Columbia Icefield Parkway - but that wasn't an 'event'

McShroom, Mikee, TC, JT and McWobble really shamed me in to looking for rides away from London.

Well, I once travelled from Adelaide via New York City to ride a randonnee in Narbonne, so I've got you covered.

(course, I only saw the poster once I was in Narbonne and thought 'cool, something to do tomorrow morning). Did you know they had Lions Clubs in France? Neither did I.

I did the Ardechoise sportive a few times which is in the Ardeche, funnily enough. One of the best events you can do FWIW.

Does Edinburgh to Klagenfurt in Austria to do a triathlon count?
Otherwise Edinburgh to Skye to do the Skye Sportive (highly reccommended).

In June 2008 I flew from Oslo to Tampere in Finland to take part in a 135 km night ride with one of my best mates.

Then in September I flew from Oslo to Glasgow to take part in the 85km 'Pedal for Scotland' with the Scottish chapter of CC.
