No.

I wait very patiently, often for some minutes, until nothing is coming. Or I park somewhere more appropriate.

With the limited mileage I do and with a bit of thought it's not a problem. It's only a problem when some interfering twot without the skills to park such a vehicle themselves tells me how I should park my truck.
You might wait but lots don't and if you have such poor visibility how do you know nobody is coming?. Our drive has a limited view out of it due to a nearby fence, so we always reverse in so that we don't have the problem of being unable to see the footpath.

It's not difficult.

The problem is there's a 'cone' of zero visibility behind me. Once that area is checked and cleared its up to me to keep looking left and right, or to the distant rear for people approaching. An area that is clear will remain clear until someone approaches and enters it, unless they parachute in or climb out of a manhole. It's not difficult if one is diligent.

Kids are very small and run along pavements or scoot etc. Very easy for them to get into that area unseen and quickly.

I've got one of those new Datsun Qashqai with the four cameras. When you're parking, the screen combines the images to give you a view as if you're looking down on the car from above, pre-3D Grand Theft Auto stylee. It works really well, to the point where I don't much look outside anymore when reverse parking. Like most modern cars, there are blind-spots aplenty out of the windows.
It's better for them (and us) to be loading a boot from a trolley on a footway rather than a driveway with cars reversing out of spaces.
Except when you get some klutz with an 18ft truck overhanging the Footway so you can't get past

I have a big problem reversing into a space!
The tailgate on my car opens sideways, not up, so cant open it if cones, walls etc are there.
If i know i wont need the boot i will reverse. Its easier to get in and out reversing as the swing is outside the parking space ^_^

I refuse to conform! In any case, it's far cheaper to run that one of those environmentally deadly small cars, and if it annoys the Ill informed Greens then so much the better ;)

If whoever erected that sign would like to try reversing my 18 foot long truck with zero rearward visibility into a parking space then be my guest.
We park the Big Red Truck (facelift L200 with top) backwards all the time. In fact leaving it in a hedge adds to safety if there's anything in the boot. Both our parents drummed in to us that it was lazy, and poor driving to nose first in to a parking space.

I've got a Douglas canopy completely obscuring the rear view, and all the mirrors give someone of my lofty dimensions is a view of the trucks flanks.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Im sure parking bays are getting smaller and therefore making it more difficult to park nose first. I reverse Into the space at the doctors surgery, and sometimes at the supermarket although Mr WD hates me doing it as he says its harder to put the shopping in the boot. I prefer reversing as its easier to get back out.
