Proud dad.

The 5yr old daughter has ditched the stabalisers and over the last couple of weeks has mastered her little bike.

Still a bit wobbly, but keen as mustard.

It's all good ...

A monumental landmark in anyone's life, like your very first steps.
Congrats to you both.
Have you discussed the pros and cons of the various frame materials with her yet?

Awwww well done to her that is great news and made me smile. It is always a great achievement when the stabilisers come off

Well done little miss admin!

Is she signed up to the forum yet? I assume she'd go straight into Modding duty...

Congratulations! Posted this link incase anyone is having problems with this. I had no idea to do it this way. Our youngest learnt before our older one which made him give up. It was really tough. So I sat down a grassy slope with a pot of sweets and did it this way. It took a couple of hours and was easy!

Thanks .. I've emailed this to my my grandson (3 3/4) (well, his mum, anyway(she's not 3 3/4!!)). He's got a little bike with stabilizers, and I'm sure they're more hinderence than help!!

Barnet,
I remember when my lad decided that he wanted to try without the stabilisers. He was only just 5. A little push down the garden and he was off, flying solo so to speak. It was a great moment. Congrats to little miss Admin.

Brilliant....

My daughter has been riding a few months but isn't keen - can't get her to ride her bike much at all.......

Forbid her. Absolutely not, no, you mustn't...

That should have her sneaking off all hours to ride!

Seriously, I don't know a lot about kids, but I suspect pressure isn't the way to go - with you being a keen cyclist, she may have all sorts of unspoken hangups about not being good enough or something - not your fault at all, but little minds are complicated things. I know I had ideas when I was little that I simply came up with, and looking back, they were daft, but I never discussed them, so they stuck.

How old is she?

Of course, she may simply not like it, at the moment. If that's the case, not much you can do.

I know I'm so keen for my nephew to get on his first bike (when I can get it to him), and I'm having to tell myself, it might take him time to get used to it, don't expect great things at once...

Kids! Got a Like-a-Bike for our lad at about 2.5yrs - didn't really take to it - got bike with stabalisers at 3.5 yrs - ok with it but a bit lazy. This summer (4.75 yrs ) all takes off - uses the likeabike to scream down the road wiht his feet up but still doesnt' think he can do proper bike without stabalisers - then 4 weeks ago using the method in the link above (without knowing it) off come the stabalisers and it's all go. Now looking for a 16" wheel bike for his birthday as he looks a bit big on the 12" that I told him wasn't going to be replaced until we had got rid of the stabalisers!
