Haven't had them knocking the door for many years (tempting fate, I know. Who's that at the door? :music:) but a couple of years ago while driving a local taxi, I picked up a couple of JW's who were attending the graveside funeral at the cemetery. It was raining quite heavily, so when we arrived at the cemetery the male decided to go to the graveside while his female partner opted for staying in the taxi with me. That was a long half hour; and it's not as if you can turf a paying customer out of the taxi with no good reason .

When I lived in that Laaandon I used to attend philosophy classes once a week at the School of Economic Science so I fancied myself as a bit of a thinker. One fine day a West Indian lady knocked my door and started giving me the JW stuff so I took her up on a few of her points. As I began to warm to my theme I could see her eyes beginning to glaze over but I'm proud to say that I managed to delay her for at least 15 minutes before she made an excuse and left.

We have a friend who was going to become a priest but then changed his mind and became and accountant. He will keep them at the doorstep for ages while he debates the finer points of the bible with them.He knows scripture better than they do and it's rather lovely to watch and listen to. JWs don't go near the NT at all, so throwing in a bit of John in there works wonders and gets them a bit hot and bothered.

He has been known to get chatting about cults etc with them. They don't much like that.

Depending on my mode I either engage them in polite and robust conversation about Eric Von Daniken, the apocrypha (specifically the book of Enoch), the origins of the nephilim, the possibility of alien life and is 42 really a special number?

...or simply tell them I'm on jury service so they really shouldn't contact me

Plenty hidey holes in that cemetery:whistle:

We have a couple who stay almost next door and over 30 odd year, never a mention of religion..
It was the Mormons in this area at one time, always two fresh faced youths immaculately dressed in suit, shirt , tie and matching raincoat (even in summer)...
I just 'set' the missus on them...

I just smile, say 'not interested, thanks,' and we part amicably.

Much as I enjoy, and share the various winding-them-up stories, I'm actually with SP on this. If someone knocks on my door, or phones me up and politely tries to sell me something, the a polite but firm "no-thanks" is more appropriate than rudeness. If they're unduly pushy or a pain, then I can be very rude indeed, but that is quite rare

JWs have always been able to drink tea and other caffeine based beverages. It's the Mormons that don't. JWs can't do yoga. (At least according to Deborah Hyde White on the wireless the other day).
Aha. Maybe the JW across the road from us just doesn't like tea then. Just her and not all of them
I know Mormons don't do tea or coffee, although I have had a nice cup of hot chocolate with one in the past.
