Mrs RM is obviously an adventurous, get-after-it kind of lady ! ^_^

She'll be wanting a tandem recumbent next ....

I was going to suggest that...

In fact she'd maybe even manage a single recumbent trike in a while, once she's got finger mobility. You can get away with a very light touch on the steering. I fear she's taller than me, or I'd offer a lend of my Catrike Dash, which is suitable for short people.

And yes, Denmark will be there another year. Well, unless there's a dramatic sea level rise....

Not good, hope she recovers quickly and hope there are no lasting problems, there is always next year for you trip.

She landed on her right hand and broke that wrist (it's been wired and pinned). She also landed on her left elbow and sheared off the olecranon process (which is the bit of the elbow where the triceps muscle attaches - so she couldnt straighten her right arm). Her left foot went into her front wheel but she was wearing her winter cycling boots - so although he toe was bruised, the only damage was eight sheared spokes in the front wheel!! Our younger son who is a medical student was obviously fascinated by the X-rays of her rearranged anatomy.

I'm sure she's most reassured by that medical fascination. I really feel for her!

Thanks - that's all good advice. She's struggling to lift tea cups and mugs as she's got no strength and very little movement - so anything plastic is going to be a bit lighter and more robust. I'm just about to get onto Google and track down some waterproof covers and some cheap plastic cutlery/crockery.

Mrs R has already got a metal plate in her left arm from a childhood gymnastics accident, she broke her tib/fib while ice skating and had a major shoulder reconstruction after a motorcycle accident in the Sudan. So she's no stranger to the operating theatre. I'm just hoping that she'll slow down a bit and take up bridge or tiddlywinks - anything which is less risky. But knowing her, she's probably booking an ice climbing course or some sky diving at this very moment

My sympathies to Mrs RM. I have experienced the very same accident as Mrs RM. One minute I was happily scooting along the tow path of the Leeds/Liverpool canal and then an invisible force appeared to bring the bike to an instant halt. I recall marvelling at the clouds in the sky as I wandered what was going on as I rotated over the bars and saw the bike follow me and hit me on the shoulders. I body slammed into the tow path and I escaped injury unlike the hapless folk swept of their feet and slammed agains building and trees in the ensuing tsunami several miles along the canal at Woodlesford.

It really was the weirdest experience. Until I gathered my senses and inspected the immediate environment I really though that I'd collided with a force field.

Mrs R and I had planned to cycle up the North Sea Coast path and tour round Denmark in June, this year. On Monday Mrs R had a major accident on her bike riding along a canal towpath and has broken both her arms. She had reconstructive surgery on Tuesday and has had wires inserted in her wrist and elbow. She's now home and recovering but has got both arms in plaster. The casts will be on for at least 8 weeks.

It seems her front wheel got caught in a crack between two flag stones and she was catapulted over the bars. Luckily she didn't suffer any spinal or head injuries. She was treated at our local hospital, Barnet General, where the staff where fantastic - particularly one A&E nurse, Julia.

I'm now planning a suitable summer activity - which may be walking the Pennine Way.
Sounds dreadful, Hope Mrs R recovers fully and quickly.

My OH had a similar accident a few years ago, wheel stuck in a tram track and went head first over handle bars ending up with both arms in plaster. He had a special one on his right arm that could be removed so he could wipe his own bum!

Good thing about snowboarding is that you have to learn how to fall, it's now instinct to cross my arms against my chest and tuck in, no matter what I'm falling off of! Awful accident to happen, wishing her a speedy recovery..

ooops, OUCH! poor Mrs Rocky! GWS and be careful whilst healing!

my JOGLE or LEJOG might be off next year as i think i have found someone to go canoeing with for a week in Sweden, might either try and squeeze it into another school holiday or simply do it another year! (probably another year due to lack of ability to magic up funds for 2 adventures just like that!) oh well that might offer some sympathy for missing out on an adventure!
Cheers Ed
