The Transfagarasan Mountain Pass

The Transfagarasan mountain pass is said to be the best mountain pass route in the world. Passing through Romania on my present tour it just had to be rode, unfortunately the weather was not on my side so the awesome views were, well, not quite awesome but nevertheless it was a good ride. Great pictures. Was that from south to north? Romania's one of my favourite countries for travelling and the Transfăgărașan is on my must-do-one-day list.
Interestingly the sign on the last slide says that the pass is closed, and only open to km 104.

Hi. That was from north to south, the sign was at the southern end, had no issues with the route...just the rain! I plan to re-visit Romania on a week's tour and ride that again..hopefully in better weather! along with another couple of pass's locals said were worth doing.

Looks like a mountain road with a very high frequency of crashes judging by all the skid marks, motorcycles and cars cutting corners.

Col de Turini in South of France band Gorge de Verdon are pretty spec.
Stelvio Pass also plus many other breathtaking mountain passes in the Alps, Dololmites, Pyrenees. Then there's the Himalayas and probably a few in South America ……… so the Transfagarasan is one of many.

Really?????? Thanks for hi-lighting there's others to choose from, I really had no idea about this amazing list...

But I chose that pass as it's said to be the best in the world (according to Top Gear, [and before you harp on about that I realise it's program about motorvehicles ]) .

(Also add to your list the Atlas mountain range in Morocco (the Tizzi n Tchika) , from experience I can tell you that's worth doing).
