Courtesy of the Home Office's ability for crap planning, I will be joining the wet wipe club from tomorrow. We're having the lifts serviced in our building until the end of Sept and naturally the best place for the engineers to store their kit is the one and only shower room. Over summer. Oh joy. There is contigency, I could walk 200 yards to a shower room in a different building but that's not going to happen.

Well I've warned my boss so if I get smelly who cares.

Sorry for only providing you with a choice of two showers and not providing enough expensive spare space in your offices to allow for the storage of bulky equipment on a very occasional basis.

It's a pokey little shower room with one shower and ten spiders serving a four floor building so it's quite a bit cheaper than paying for my heart bypass. The lift stuff could have been stored in the secure (and empty) car park.

To use the other shower, I'd be better cycling home again.

Shower 1 doesn't sound too appealing, but presumably the spiders are living there because it isn't used much, in which case it sounds perfectly adequate. Perhaps those that do use it could take responsibility for keeping it cleaner?

There's only me uses it really. And I find the spiders keep the mosquitos under control so I'm happy to share with them. I still think the lift stuff could have been stored somewhere else.

And anyone in the 4 floors can use it and there are other cyclists. It's just I've never had to queue.

(I used to live in sarf Lahndan and did my Christmas Shopping in Croydon because I couldn't be doing with proper London. This was pre-internet obviously. Pure class me - 'sure darling, I could have gone to Knightsbridge for your present, but the Whitgift was very slightly less crowded' ... )

You could always go sick…….. work related stress due to not having a shower at work in the mornings…….. As a civil servant you get 6 months on full pay then there after half pay doncha which should see you to when your shower is back in operation?
