And this season may turn out better than thought, 2 points ahead and 6 places above Wonderland - who might get relegated

Mid table obscurity will suit this member of the Toon Army down to the ground, and in any season seeing the sad mackem b*st*rds get relegated is a bonus.

Mid table obscurity seems to have been the fate of the club since its last major trophy win in 1969. I've never understood the fanaticism for such an average team.

You'd be very pleasantly surprised... It's a magnificent place, the Toon.
I've been there 3 times and enjoyed my visits, but what's with the shirtless young men and 3 inch skirted/ 4 inch heeled young women staggering about outside bars? I'm talking on cold, damp November evenings, not mid-summer! :cold:

They were overdressed. That's what they normally wear when it's really cold in January.

That "stereotype" is actually very true

I'm not from these parts originally, but have now spent about 7 yrs living here, and I find I don't feel the cold as much as my southern family/friends any more

Can't beat a bit of football bigotry... as if it matters
rolleyes.gif
it's only football.... <ducks down waiting for flying glass and fanatical vitriolic fervour>

[Sunderland and Middlesbrough have just had 2 months holiday winding down for the summer, while everyone else rushed around in the usual panic].

The party people can't wear clothes appropriate for the weather as they'd always be queuing at the cloakroom to hand in or retrieve coats, scarves and gloves.

Quayside is particularly pleasant nowadays, it wasn't like that 25 years ago... thanks to a lot of investment, private money on the Newcastle side and public money on the Gateshead side.

I first started boozing in Newcastle in 1975 in the Strawberry and The Man on the Moon (now called Trillions) normally before going on to a gig at Newcastle City Hall. I'd also visit the Beer Keller but only have hazy recollections of its whereabouts. The Quayside has been totally transformed since then and at one time, probably during the peak of redevelopment, the Porsche count per capita was the highest in the UK.

I still get a warm glow every time I visit the place.

Vernon. You missed the best pubs, they were mostly made POSH or knocked down by 75, like the Spit and Vommit opposite the Central station or the Ord Arms at Scotswood or the Forge Hammer in Elswick. If there was not at least one fight a night in any of these the landlord thought his beer was off or there was something wrong. Oh by the by I have just finished a week of cycling and walking round the Powburn area in mid Northumerland. It was great, if that area is not the best in the country, it must be in the top three for cyclists and walkers alike.

If we wanted fights we used to go to Whitley Bay on the annual working mens' clubs trips out.. Quite a few of my friends at the time have received treatment for chair and pool cue wounds. I was too fleet of foot to be caught up in the really nasty stuff.

That's geordies for you, unlike the more civilised Mackems.

All I ever heard when working with geordies was "cannybagotudorman" took me years to work out they were praising a brand of crisps and not praying to the magpies.

Guess which part I lived in when I moved up north

I'm still in mourning over the demise of Tudor crisps especially the kipper flavoured ones. Walkers have a lot to answer for.
