Kevin "The Gerbil" Carroll a "notorious" Glasgow gangster was shot 6 times the other day in Glasgow.

Now while this is not an uncommon occurance in most cities amongst the Gangster fraternity and certainly not uncommon in Glasgow the press up here are having a field day. The main reason being it happened in the middle of the day in the car park of a supermarket causing the police to seal the store and lock in the customers for 3 hours while they searched for forensic evidence. So it's been all over the tv and radio.

It has puzzled me for a couple of days though hearing snippets on the tv and radio why he had the nickname "The Gerbil"!!!

There are many "gangsters" over the years running about Glasgow with nicknames:-

Tam "The Licensee" McGraw as his legit side was Pubs
Arthur "The Godfather" Thompson as he ran the biggest organised crime gang in Glasgow till his death

There are loads more but "The Gerbil"?????????

Then this morning it has all kicked into place after seeing a picture of him, clearer than the clearest crystal known to man!!!!!!

;)

Apparently the police are following "many lines of enquiry" throughout the Glasgow underworld. Now while I'm no Inspector Morse or far be it for me to tell the police how to do their job but it appears they maybe barking up the wrong tree with this one and should be looking to question this character!!

Quicker than being knifed in the Gorbals, I suppose.

I once had a rather unusual story related to me by someone about a murder in Glasgow. It was a very specific story and I thought that I would take a look at the internet and see if there was any truth in it.

I made the mistake of typing in 'Glasgow' and 'Murder' into the BBC News site, and then it became a rather depressing and morbid type of fascination whilst I trawled through the pages and pages and pages of results.

Didn`t that puppet character Roland Rat have a side kick called Kevin (a gerbil)?

Anyway, it very sounds like Glaswegian humour to me.

You could say the same of any UK city. The trick to not being murdurred in any of them is to avoid contact with anyone whose middle name is "The".
