I need to buy a new laptop and would like to be able to view (and maybe convert/edit) old video tapes played through a vcr.

Is this a simple thing to do?

I have one of these. You will need an SD card to capture the video. Once the video has been recorded onto the card there are numerous pieces of Software out there that will convert the file to DVD format such as ConvertXtoDVD

What connectors are there on the VCR? There are numerous composite video/audio to USB convertors out there which may or may not come with suitable bundle software for what you want to do (else freeware will meet your needs).

my younger brother has one of these. seems to be OK. I refuse to buy from betterware as it means i will have to accept I am close to middle aged.
