people who flash their fog lights at me when i flash my headlights to make them move

oh, hang on, thats me flashing my fog light to tell them to sod off until i've passed the truck.

I don't like people who brake on the motorway, its not needed except in an emergency and it only causes people to jab on the brakes hard as a result leaving the road for a few miles blocking up and a possible accident.

You'll have to explain...

Because nobody's forcing you to change lanes - if its safe to do so then fine, but ultimately its the responsibility of the person on the slip road to judge when its safe to join the main carriageway.

You'll have to explain...

You indicated to move into a space that wasn't there, you cannot expect a driver behind to alter his speed or position to accomodate your wishes.
By indicating that you were changing lanes, without knowing you could do so for certain, is misleading to the drivers on the slip road.
A driver joining the Mway in this case could reasonably expect you not to be in the first lane were you to be in his blind spot at that moment.

I often indicate to move into a space that isn't there. Don't you? What do you do when you're waiting for a space to turn right into a side road. Sit there in the middle of the road leaving everyone wondering what you're trying to do? Or pulling away from the kerb. you wait until there's a space before you indicate?

It's an indicator. It indicates ones intention. Then people can see what you're planning to do. If someone is kind enough to let you out then fine

To wait until there's a space to pull into before you indicate is poor driving,

Pulling into a space that isn't big enough would have been bad driving, but that didn't happen.

I wasn't expecting anything.

Nonsense.

Did your instructor warn you about trusting other people's indicators?

Expect isn't a good word to use when talking about using roads.
Well clearly you're never in the wrong so I'll bow out now if you don't mind

I'm quite happy to discuss this with you. Now, given my explanation, It would be useful for you to respond to my points, and if you still think that it was poor driving explain why in the light of my reply.

Do you never signal your intentions before it's safe to carry them out?

No.
Never on a motorway.
The rest I have explained.

Why not? Do you not understand traffic flow? Is it not better to back off slightly to leave room for a car to manoeuvre than leave the driver to have to brake and upset the flow of traffic.

Without the expectation reason please, because hopefully you can see that expecting other drivers to behave in a certain way on the road is a pretty dangerous thing to do.

It's my belief that roads are much safer and and flow much better when we work together on them.

Maybe you misunderstood and thought that I was expecting the middle-lane driver to let me in.

Precisely my point and I really can't understand why you expected the ' idiot' to let you in, though now you seem to be denying this.

If you didn't expect it why indicate?

Can this go to commuting?

Surely a better place?

Nick Knowles.

Saw him on the M5 yesterday. He was on the hard shoulder, from whence he proceeded to cut across me as he rejoined the motorway, buried the accelerator to highly illegal speeds, as he blatted off with smoke pouring out of his exhaust. And he was driving a Range Rover.

Knobhead.
