The Alpine pop lorry on a Friday night... we used to have 1 pineapple crush, 1 cream soda and 1 lemonade between 4 of us for the week any more had to come out of our own pocket money. Big thick chunky glass bottles with a rubber seal under the screw top Was the Alpine thing just a Midlands thing or was it more country wide?

Did Doctors ever actually wear those round mirror things on their head?? Also, did teachers ever wear Mortar Boards in class?

teachers did.
At two schools that I went to, all the qualified teachers wore 'cap and gown'
So mortar boards and black capes.
we used to refer to them collectively as 'batmen'

I remember an older teacher in secondary school who wore gown and mortar board and smoked a pipe in class. This was in the early 1990s so not ancient history although it would seem like another world to school kids now.

I still only drink it when ill not in conjunction with sport.

I know its full of sugar, etc, but I never understood why people only ever drank it when ill. Sorry, but why? Who made that rule up? My Mum used to do the same when I was ill, but, I'm sorry, It just doesn't compute, you can actually drink it at OTHER times when you are well too, it isn't against the law or anything!! Its like eating grapes when you aren't ill.....

Lucozade? Yuk, designed to taste horrible so it made you're parents think it must be good for you...

Umm, I quite like it thankyou very much!! Its why I know you could get cans of it at places like the local Swimming Pool, etc.

It was beside the runway at Heathrow as we took off

It wasn't flying, making a rude amount of noise though was it?

Of course it may just be a childhood association but when I am well I just tastes like a horrid over-sweet yucky odd taste and I never think about it, but when I am ill I love the taste and get a bit of a craving for it. Perhaps the original stuff was attuned to our taste when ill.
I have not tried the sports drink versions though.

I've just had a flashback to taking the incendiary bomb in to school as part of my contribution to "What our parents did during the war". The teacher freaked out!

I was just searching for a hammer in my sister's garage and I found the bomb! It is looking a bit the worse for wear, but it is nearly 80 years old now so that is not surprising!

I had a book from a jumble sale about jetex powered boats and planes but sadly I think the actually jetex rockets had already gone even 45 years ago. I bet it wouldn't have stopped the much missed Vernon of this parish from making his own rocket mix from scratch.

Jetex fuse wire had a metal core that could be shorted into a motorbike battery to provide a half-way decent detonator for DIY schoolboy bombs. I've no idea how I learned that.....

We had clear glass bottles for Lucozade and to colour the bottle it was wrapped in a yellow film. It was just a drink you had when you were ill. And you got 1/2d back when you returned the bottle. I still only drink it when ill not in conjunction with sport.

I absolutely associate the taste of Lucozade with feeling ill.

I'd forgotten about the crinkly yellow covering. It was the same colour as that yellow film that you put over headlamps if you were going to France.

Which is something else you don't see, yellow headlamps.
