Things to do in Birmingham

Work would like me to spend a couple of days in our Birmingham office in mid-July. I reckon I can organise the travel so that I get a free afternoon for sight-seeing.

So, if I was to arrive in Birmingham by train at lunchtime on a Monday in July, what could I do to fill the afternoon & early-evening? I like wildlife stuff, crafts, science, cycling (obviously). I'll most likely have the Brompton with me so I can travel about a bit. I could just go for a ride if I could easily get away from the city.

I'd be staying near Temple Point which I think is pretty central. I quite fancied the Jewellery Museum but that's not open on a Monday

If your in the city centre. Make your way to broad street. There is the NIA centre, and the sea life centre. There is also the canals there that you can cycle along. At the sea life centre they also tend to get a lot of narrow boats moored. Some have been turned Into cafes, and there was one that they turned into an ice cream parlour. Its a nice place to spend an afternoon. in the city centre by the floozy in the jacuzzi you have the museum, and art gallery.

Plenty of places to get onto the canal network with your bike.

the pre-Raphaelites at the Art Gallery, the new library, especially the roof top terrace, definitely the canals,there used to be a nice veggie place in Digbeth, just minutes from the centre, look up- some fine architecture, get a curry. Train out to, oh dunno, Bournville and cycle around?

Do not attempt to drive. Stay well Lear of the 02 academy it's a dive round about there. Not to offend anyone from there but it's not a good place from my experiance have only been there twice though. First time there was a shooting round the corner second time wasn't as bad but not good either

Yes that's the one. We went there for a meal a couple of weeks back and it was shocking. 1 hr 15 min wait for "food" that was cold and hard. I don't think the one waitress will ever recover from my response when she asked if all was ok.......!

Nope. Its near the library, and museum. Not a bad place to sit for while
