1. Go out on bike before parents were even awake with a bag of sarnies and juice.
2. Help with a milk round.
3. Engrave names under a canal bridge.
4. Never come home until it was getting dark.
5. Make a 'den' in the local woods.
6. Play 'thunder and lightening'.
7. Collect frogs and bring them home.
8. Climb trees and shout at people (so they looked about mistified).
9. Camp out in a tent overnight in the back garden.
10. Go roller skating in the local school gym.

Those were the days!

I used to watch telly. Robinson Crusoe and Tarzan (the Johnny Weizemuller ones) were good. Heidi lasted for as long as the few first bars of the signature tune. I even used to watch Why Don't You (Stop Watching Television and Do Something Less Boring Instead), which was boring and never had any good suggestions. Apart from watching telly, I used to torture my younger brother, my speciality being the double dead arm. This lasted till my early teens when my parents packed us off to our grandparents in Ireland during the summer.

1) bike to the old pit and spend the day mountain biking on it
2) build go carts out of old bits of wood and an old pram chassis we had (even used the front half of a pedal go cart for one incarnation of it!)
3) tent in back garden
4) play in woods
5) burn stuff
6) race skateboards down the road (knelt or laid down on them, never stood up)
7) help the next door neighbour with his garden
8) get paid to wash the car

can't think of any more...
