what is the best way to sell a car? and how much is it worth?

it is ford fiesta flame 1.4 petrol 04 reg 53500 miles

It's worth whatever cash a buyer is prepared to part with in exchange for your car.

There's a lot of variables to take into account:
  • external condition
  • service history
  • colour
  • interior condition
  • extras
  • whether or not it was driven by a smoker
Have a look in auto trader to get an idea of what similar cars sell for.

If it is a nice car, I would say Parkers are being a bit hard on the old thing. Do your homework, Ebay, Autotrader etc. Quite a desirable little car so a buyer should not be hard to find.

Make sure it is properly prepped before you show it to any potential customers.

clean, clear and vacuum the inside, wash and polish it including the bits that can only be seen when the doors are open etc etc

you can look at selling it to a second hand dealership (independent ones might do you better) or can take it to auction (it'll go for what someone pays)

personally, I'd avoid we buy any car etc as they'll give one price, then find things wrong with the car when you actually take it to them, i've heard of some pretty bad bullying tactics by them including taking the car keys from you part way though inspection and refusing to hand them back despite continuing to drop the price and owner saying no, they don't want to sell - although that was some time ago.

some decent photos on e-bay or auto trader is a good way still.

As others have said, ebay's a pretty good way to check out what it might fetch - go to advanced search and put a tick in 'completed listings' (once you've put, say, ' ford fiesta flame 1.4' as your search term), then spend a few minutes looking at what comes up.

Together the most money for your car, selling it privately is the way to go. This however takes the most effort, and is hardest to find the sale.

Taking it to a dealer gets you a much lower price, but is much easier, almost effortless! Guess it depends on what's most. portent to you - the quick sale, or maximum cash.

If you go the dealer route remember to play them off against each other and visit more than one!

Don't use the 'buy any car' type websites - the value they offer on the site is rarely the value they pay, as they often turn up (or worse get you to deliver) the car and find extra faults/scratches that lower the value.

Please remember that while this is true there is a perfectly valid reason for it. These guys will have to flip it for a profit after all, and that's not easy for anyone in this day and age.

Good to do your homework though, there's nothing wrong at all in having an idea what something may be worth.

IMO most main dealers would only be interested if you traded it in for another car, (and you don't mention if you want to replace it).

The reason is that if they sell it off their pitch they will have to offer a warranty on what is, (despite low mileage), an 8 year old car, (no offence intended).

Even if you traded it in a main dealer would very likely just send it to auction.

So with this in mind they can only offer you an amount that gives them a chance to get their money back when the hammer falls.
