where cars are concerned I'd be quite happy to see total automation, but then I get no buzz out of driving.

Agreed. ABS and all these other safety features make a lot of people lazy. Though this is a nice idea, it's another way that driving looses all skill.

Any gadget that stops or prevents accidents and injury must be worth considering and developing IMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To make the system more user-friendly, the amount of door resistance is in proportion to the proximity of an object. This means that the closer a cyclist or other vehicle gets to the door, the harder it will be to open it.

This should read. "The closer a cyclist is the more likely a BMW driver is to give their door a good shove open."

Perhaps they should just start fitting mirrors to the doors. BMWs clearly don't have them!
