i've already got a decent D-lock i'm just wondering if this is a reasonable substitute, its certainly a lot lighter! but therein lies my worry.

In a word, NO - don't need anything special to cut it and probably would protect your bike for about 10 seconds against a thief wanting your bike.

If you are wanting to leave the bike for over 30 secs, no its not a suitable replacement for the D Lock, as said it could though make a useful addition, to secure your front wheel :-)

Probably shouldn't be used as a substitute, but handy for locking up a wheel.

I have often wondered about that when I see this advised to people. The thing is that for some people a front wheel is worth more than my bike  and I would not trust one of those cables to secure my bike.

So, I think it boils down to how expensive your front wheel is to replace.

Having said all that, I do see quite a few bikes locked with that type of cable....... I guess they just don't know any better.

everytime i see a bike locked up with a Lidl style lock i fell like i want to steal the bike myself just to teach the owner a lesson (although i never would and never have)
