Getting old but not past it

24th December 2042!! I will be 92 then!. Seriously, death worries me as I am not religious and really believe that death is just a big black hole and that's it. I tend not to think about it but my brother in law has just been diagnosed with lung cancer and been given 12 to 18 months. At 62, he is far too young for dying. Shall we change the subject?

I sometimes think that death will be more enjoyable than life. I am bipolar, and the darkness descends without warning or reason.

It's odd, some talk about parents here and a few about children but not much about partners. The thing that bothers me is if either of us go while the other is healthy...not a nice thought. (Neither of us want to be the one left but neither of us want the other to be! grrr. ) I'm 48, she's 56 so with any luck the usual male/female differences will work out just right. I saw my grandad laid out in a coffin when i was 11 years old. When my dad died my mum wanted my 4 year old daughter to see him laid out. I refused point blank! I wasn't told i'd be expected to look at a dead body and it freaked me out. I had nightmares for years and to this day i truly believe it has messed with my mind.

I'd be more concerned about going first if my partner was in poor health, if she is in good health she could grieve and then build a new life, if not I'd be worried about her getting the care she needs.
