To be fair, banning visits down to the Titanic site would be relatively easy to do, seeing as almost nobody can do it anyway!

Many people have died diving in Scapa Flow, or for that matter on holiday doing stripy fish dives in warm clear waters, or rambling up Scafell in the lake district for that matter. Presumably these should also be declared as graves and visits permanently banned. Likewise the tour de France after that poor guy was killed a week or so back

It isn't mainly about banning things that are dangerous (though some may have suggested that).

The only one of your list which is in any way comparable is Scapa Flow - and two of the wrecks there HAVE been designated as war graves, with only very restricted diving.

The rest are no places where multiple people have died without their bodies being recovered. Something like Eveerst would have been a better example.

I'm in favour of declaring it a grave for the 100's that died on a single vessel, not because visiting it is dangerous.

I’d think with the ROVs since they have full duplex data transmission and location data, that they know exactly where they are in relation to the Titanic debris field.

I'm not convinced that Something Must Be Done and It Should Be Banned.

It's not like the place is swarming with billionaires in tin* cans. There has been one incident.

Anyway I have a suspicion that it may be self-regulating in that this incident will somewhat dent the expensive holidays at extreme depth market.

I doubt the rescue crews would be taking this line unless they were fairly sure it was debris from this sub. They were never going to be saved and the best case scenario of instant death appears to have occurred. Those involved would have had no idea and no chance to even notice.

If its as we suspect it's very tragic, but better than the suffocation scenario.

If you go on a cruise ship to see something say whale watching or visiting something like a glacier dumping icebergs into the sea the vessel will be constructed to meet standards. It will have regulations on maintenance and construction standards. Without that the company offering the trips would not get insurance and would not be able to operate.

A submersible trip to titanic had no such standards, regulations, insurance or control? Wild West of holiday offers or what?

I can only see more of this happening with space tourism. Fairly safe if you went with NASA, but the others, Virgin/Space X - hmmm.
