So been commuting by bike for 6 months now and in that time I have nearly been taken down by:

  • A seagull
  • Pedestrians (AKA in Brighton Lemmings)
  • Cars/car doors/Vans etc
  • potholes/debris on the road
  • Black ice
  • A runaway toddler
  • Dogs
  • Other cyclists (a common one is with a protrusion from the bike/ ruck sack such as a squash racket).

And a new first for me Thursday night, when a drunk amputee in a wheel chair decided he would like to move his wheelchair from the safety of the pavement on to the road. So I got to wondering if I have any thing else to look forward to. Has any one been nearly/taken down by any thing else I have not encountered so far?

+1 on the broken chain. Pulling away from the lights and Bam! The sudden meeting of top tube and gentlemans area didn't half bring tears to my eyes.

Acorn shells, thrown up from the tyres of the bus I was drafting at the time... felt like I'd been shot.

About a million years ago, a cat tried to top itself under my tyres, scooting out from behind a wall at warp speed, it was that close I got it's tail.

I think my front wheel was "life #9" for the cat, as there was a bus overtaking me at time...

-Lace getting wrapped in spd cleat (only way to get free was to tear the lace with a hard tug)

In Majorca, a rat ran into the back wheel of Mrs TB who was cycling in front. The rat was flicked up and hit me full on the chest before scurrying over my shoulder and jumping off.
