Named after the two bowler hatted detectives in the Tin Tin Books... And they weren't twins either weird isn't it? one spelled his name Thompson the other Thomson.

I guess everyone's being a bit tongue in cheek with some of this stuff, but I hate the way that people say '80s music' in the same way as 70s or 60s or even 50s and probably 40s music.

I think there were a lot of things colliding at the time. The new romantic stuff which you could say was the only original upshot of it all, was essentially commercial rubbish, and flawed because it was the by product of one single 70s artist, bowie. Probably what we'd call the rebirth of 'pop' as a separate concept.

In the early 80s at least were some great british post-punk bands like GBH, ska stuff like specials, madness etc. Also the nascent indie scene with stuff like the Smiths and the jesus and mary chain
