Yup! People have some funny ideas about dehumidifiers, remember a story of a bloke who collected and photographed dozens of plastic bottles of water, he had taken out of his caravan. Presumably opening the door each time to empty it! You can't cure stupid

no its not. unless the fire was caused by an earth fault . which in all my years as a spark is unlikely . RCDs are supplementary protection against earth faults ( the fuse/MCB should operate in the required time of 0.4s )and are used to prevent fatal electric shock.
RCDs are used as primary protection in a TT system as the loop impedances are too high before the pedants start ;)

Most electrical fires are caused by overcurrent which a RCD WILL NOT PROTECT AGAINST , an RCBO will provide overcurrent protection.
