Been shown stuff to do with things like "the Velominati" and all that sort of stuff. Although I see what the point of it is, I'm not sure I go along with some of it.
The background is - I'm just getting into cycling properly these days. When I was a kid, I literally spent all my free time up and down the road but it was just something that you did back then. These days, I genuinely love it. I love going out and getting some freedom, the connection with the bike, the fitness aspect, the way the bike looks, using cleats. Boring and geeky I know, but I don't care - I am what I am.
I bought a slightly old-skool (well 2006) Codifis Team jersey purely because its Wilier - I love it and it goes with the bike. It makes me happy. Someone on fb pointed me towards a page on there referring to "Pro-Bike-Kit W***ers". Funny as it is, do I really have to resign myself to not buying this sort of stuff because I'm not a pro? I'm not trying to be one, I just love the brand and wanted to buy it. Doesn't mean I think I'm better than I am - I'm more than aware of my status as a newbie and happy to be green and learn from people with more experience and ability than me.
Is there really this thing of having to be non-mainstream cos it ain't cool? Whereas I used to go along with stuff like that, I don't think I can be a**ed any more and wondered whether I'll be flamed for it...
Apologies for ramble etc.
Cheers
