You are cycling on the "wrong" side of the road on a very vulnerable mode of transport. You should be able to stop within the distance you can see. The oncoming driver was going too fast as well but he at least had priority. There is fault on both sides but more on yours methinks. What would you have done if a wider vehicle had come bombing round the corner?

I agree, the driver wasn't perfect and neither was benb.

I would personally take this one on the chin, learn from it and move on. We all make 'mistakes' and you are in a great position to learn from it. I've personally had things picked up on from other riders and looking back on them, i was in the wrong.

+1.

you approached a blind bend on the wrong side of the road, it's your responsibility to check it is safe and clear to do so. He approached a blind bend with a little too much haste.

Personally I think it was 80/20 your fault. But as Gaz said, you're still with us so you're in a perfect position to learn from it.

Happy trails

that looks like everday stuff to me ,but the car driver should have slowed ,but u were on his side ,knew you would have to go into his lane apoching a juction so should have been much slower so you would have had no problem swerveing, but there was no incident so therefore no blaim either way, its not right but we know cyclist dont register with car drivers as hazards as strongly as they should , knowing this we must expect them to see though us past us ectect and act acordingly. bring on the dutch system

50/50. He should really have stopped, rather than barge through. But you could've been better prepared by negotiating the hazard at a more cautious pace.

Fair points everyone. I'll take all this on board.

I think the person most at fault was the person who parked the van there!

I will just say that seeing as I was well into the gap before he even appeared, I don't think the fact that I was on "his" side of the road is relevant. But we both should have been going a bit slower. If I had been him I would have stopped.

You live and learn, hopefully.
