I used to play a baby tuba (Euphonium) when at school, but that was only because I was rubbish at the trumpet and the band needed some bass notes and it has the same keying
I know how you feel. My music teacher convinced me at age 13 that the tuba was the most important instrument in the orchestra, the foundation of all things musical. I spent the next 5 years nursing blisters on the pads of my hands from carrying the blasted thing everywhere. But time heals the scars...

Puzzle game procrastinator!
Tumbleweed jokes aside - yes, go for it!

One of my biggest regrets is that I didn't take up my school's offer of free lessons for the instrument of my choice. They were even going to supply the instrument. (I suppose if I'd chosen the piano, I'd have had to do my practice at school!)

At school I took up cello to please my very musical father.

After a number of weeks I knew it was not for me and after a heart to heart with mum, she told me that that was OK; I had tried; just to go and tell the music teacher what I had told her and it would be alright and dad would understand. Of course, dad did understand and that is irrelevant.

On the way to school that morning I managed to break a string on the cello.

My speech to the teacher was something like "oh, sir, err, well, i am really sorry but err, well it's kind of like I wanna, well, I wanna like give, err... oh and I broke a string on your cello and I want to quit". He (the teacher) said not to worry about it and he would buy a new string but in that moment I realised he thought I had quit because mum could not afford to replace it.

I think I learned politics that day.

Update - I have indeed taken up the tuba again and play in a brass band. If demand is overwhelming I might consider posting a clip on here of me playing. Just remember to stagger the requests though throughout the night as there is only a limited amount of bandwidth and I don't want to be responsible for CC crashing.

Don't be shy, you know you want it :shy:

Fixed wheel fanatic.
I played tuba for many years at a high level. I gave it up when the 'day job' started getting too demanding. I've changed jobs now and while I miss the performing I don't miss the rehearsing and hours on a coach at the weekends!
I have seen a large part of the world that I wouldn't have seen had it not being for my brass playing.
Go for it and enjoy!!
This is my old band, although I'm not on the vid, I left many many years ago - way before youtube and t'interweb-thingy!!
