Hi all - does anyone know if it is possible to convert an old wheel with a thread (34.8mm) to a Shimano cassette hub without changing the whole wheel hub

I want to add single speed cog

Any help would be great

Freewheel hubs and freehubs (with casette) are completely different in design and not interchangeable. Shorten the chain, ditch the mech and use one of the freewheel cogs ?

Confused? What is the target? A single freewheel?
This should just screw onto your existing hub?

With spacers behind to get the chain-line right.
OR
Resetting the wheel's offset & respacing the hub.

On second thoughts.......

.....Just get a single speed wheel.
Quicker, Easier & Cheaper.
