Unfortunately I'm out already with only 1 outdoor ride this week I can't do enough . The conditions are awful round here I have 1 neighbour with a broken elbow slipped on black ice and been this morning to get another neighbours car out of a ditch with help from a local farmer they were lucky that they were uninjured and the car only get scratches so I didn't get enough ride in early in the week when it was just windy and I'm not prepared to take chances with ice

I did No 2 today, was very wary and avoided some paths I knew would be lethal.

I need No 3 tomorrow but with temps of 1-2c and rain all days, chances of sleet are high. Fingers crossed I can get out there.

2nd week done
  1. Sat 10th - 5.8m - 0:34
  2. Sat 10th - 6.6m - 0:33
  3. Sun 11th - 11m - 1:02
Something different for ride 3, I have a course coming up so had a ride out to the building. Not much bike parking unfortunately, actually none so fist visit I'll be driving and see if I can arrange something. I did discover though the Huddersfield Broad Canal runs almost to the building and has had the towpath resurfaced recently so a lovely ride. Shame it was so wet though not as bad as I thought it might be.

Got in another ride that counts for this week. The first past took me through The Docks (now renamed The Waterfront, but I can remember when it was a working environment) and was able to use one of the newly installed 'binoculars' dotted around town. These are interactive and as you pan around, you are treated to what you might have seen in Victorian times (I tracked a barge sailing past heading for the upper part of the docks - similar to one berthed here).

Week 2: 4 local rides over 30 mins; 4.35 hours on the bike; distance cycled 57.29km (486m of Ascent)

Ride 1: Wednesday 7th Jan – local ride on the RAID: 16.70km, 81 mins
Ride 2: Friday 9th Jan (1) – local ride on the RAID: 8.62km, 42 mins
Ride 3: Friday 9th Jan (2) – local ride on the Crosshill: 16.44km, 72 mins
Ride 4: Saturday 10th Jan – local ride on the MASSI: 15.52km, 67 mins

Photo below actually from last week but I was there again yesterday afternoon – and, unsurprisingly, nothing has changed (apart from the weather – it was much colder, wetter, and windier yesterday – and I was on a different bike: one of my mountain bikes because of the conditions)

W2R1 - 53 mins - Mon - Icey above Sabden
W2R2 - 39 mins - Thu - local miles giving it some beans
W2R3 - 38 mins - Sun - local miles (rain squalls but no ice). Steady above average effort (for me) zone 0 1%, zone 1 4%, zone 2 64%, zone 3 31%. As opposed to Thursday, no sprints, just under 31 kph max but I maintained an average of over 25 kph. Almost a km less distance travelled. Not planning on listing this sort of info on a regular basis, but adding it here will give me a comparative baseline for the year going forward.

It seems this extra challenge is proving to be an unexpected incentive. I'm only about a 10 mins cycle ride (or perhaps less) away from my local Sainsbury's, but I've now begun (as I did this morning) taking a long detour out to Nacton village and approaching the store from the other direction - just to claim a ride. :okay:
(I'm going to have to triple check my times for this route - I went to make an identical note from today's excursion and felt that 55 mins I've been recording was a tad too long.)
Oh, and I missed the rain. ^_^

I didn't miss the rain

It was a horrible morning here too - it took me 27 mins to do the first 5km of my ride because of the strength of the wind. In the end, I managed 17km which was enough for a wet day. That was my third ride of the week so I'm relaxed.

The next 3 days look a bit better so I hope to get a few more rides done this week (assuming my van passes its MoT, due tomorrow afternoon).
