Week 28: 3 qualifying rides, 27 km, 1.5 hrs.
  • Ride 1 (Mon): 9 km. Lumpy local loop. 0.5 hr.
  • Ride 2 (Tue): 8 km. Slightly shortened lumpy local loop. 0.5 hour.
  • Ride 3 (Fri): 10 km. Slightly extended Lumpy local loop. 0.5 hour.

Success rate: 28 weeks out of 28.
97 qualifying rides so far this year, totalling 1,988 km, and taking approximately 126 hrs.

*** All done on DIY 6-speed bike kept in 42/15 gear ***

(I had planned to ride a lot more but the rain and wind put me right off!)

Week 29 – ride 4 (Wed) – 1 hr 34 mins – Riaye, Corbinais, Kerminy, la Plaisance and SBdM: on La Rossa

W29R1 - Mares 4 hours 35 mins - Burnley to Skipton return, mostly on the L&L but a good few miles off to give my neck a break (total 81.7 km / 50.8 miles plus 1,850 ft / 564 m ascent)
W29R2 - Centurion 30 mins - soggy local miles
W29R3 - Centurion 1 hour 15 mins - more soggy local miles

  • Ride 2 (Thu): 35 km. Tod, Hebden Bridge, Wood Top Rd recce for coming Scammonden ride, Cragg Vale, Littleborough, Tod. 1.75 hours.
  • Ride 3 (Fri): 9 km. Slightly extended Lumpy local loop with a new variation. 0.5 hour.

Success rate: 29 weeks out of 29.
100 qualifying rides so far this year, totalling 2,044 km, and taking approximately 129 hrs.

The no cycling signs are illegal additions - been removed by the council at the other end of the track

  • Ride 1 (Mon): 66 km. This ride round Scammonden Water. Ride time about 5 hrs.
  • Ride 2 (Tue): 8 km. Lumpy local loop. 0.5 hour.
  • Ride 3 (Wed): 12 km. Extended Lumpy local loop with an extra hill. 0.5 hour.
  • Ride 4 (Sat): 19 km. From Tod to Hebden Bridge on A646 to drop things off at friend's house, then back to Tod, plus shopping when I got here. 0.75 hour.

Success rate: 30 weeks out of 30.
100 qualifying rides so far this year, totalling 2,149 km, and taking approximately 135.75 hrs.

W31R3 - Wiliers (not mine) & CX 1 hour 30 mins - local miles + out to Barrowford then up past Fence etc
W31R4 - CX 1 hour 2 mins - more or less the same as R3 but turned back at Fence
W31R5 - Centurion & CX 4 hours 14 mins - local laps Burnley etc, finishing with a run out to the Clarion (total 101.9 km / 63.3 miles plus bugger all ascent - well 1,200 ft / 366m)

  • Ride 2 (Wed): 9 km. Lumpy local loop. 0.5 hr.
  • Ride 3 (Thu): 50 km. Clockwise Cragg Vale loop plus extra up Burnley Rd to Ram Inn then u-turned and back to Tod (to get half metric century in). 2.5 hrs.
  • Ride 4 (Fri): 20 km. From Tod to Ram Inn on A646, u-turn, Portsmouth, Carr Rd, Sourhall, Bacup Rd, Tod. 1.25 hrs.
  • Ride 5 (Sun): 15 km. Extended lumpy local loop with extra climbing. 0.75 hrs.

Success rate: 31 weeks out of 31.
105 qualifying rides so far this year, totalling 2,255 km, and taking approximately 141.5 hrs.

*** Rides done on DIY 6-speed bike, mostly in 42/15 gear. I used 42/29 for the steep climb to Sourhall, and the 14/13/12 sprockets a few times for faster downhills ***

  • Ride 1 (Mon): 16 km. Extended lumpy local loop with extra climb to Lumbutts. 1.0 hr.
  • Ride 2 (Wed): 17 km. Extended lumpy local loop to Eastwood and back via Mankinholes, Lumbutts, and Walsden. 1.0 hr.
  • Ride 3 (Fri): 23 km. Extended lumpy loop including Lumbutts, Bacup Rd, Sourhall, and back via Portsmouth. 1.25 hrs.
  • Ride 4 (Sun): 21 km. Some Tod lumpiness, then Walsden, Calderbrook, Caldermoor, Littleborough, Walsden, Tod. 1.0 hr.
Success rate: 32 weeks out of 32.
109 qualifying rides so far this year, totalling 2,332 km, and taking approximately 145.75 hrs.

*** Rides done on DIY 6-speed bike, mostly in 42/15 gear. I used 42/23 and 42/29 for a few tough climbs, and the 14/13/12 sprockets a few times for faster downhills ***

Really struggled to get my rides in this week. Not looking good for hitting my modest monthly distance target, though the ascent target should be easy enough as there have only been a few rides with under 1000ft of climbing.
