Got a nice email from CycleWorld after the Post Office 'returned my package as I'd failed to pick up with the specified period' saying they were going to resend it, and wouldn't charge the extra postage, as they should. I replied describing 'what actually happened':

On Thursday 20th they put a card thru' the door
On Friday 21st my wife went to the sorting office - 'not back yet love, sorry, come tomorrow'
On Saturday 22nd I went to the sorting office - 'not back yet mate, sorry, come back on Tuesday' (after the bank holiday). I explained I couldn't come back on Tuesday - I'd be at work - but I'd come back next Saturday
On Saturday 29th I went to the sorting office - 'not here mate, sorry, come back on Monday'. I explained I couldn't come back on Monday - I'd be at work. They promised to find it and re-deliver it during the week. Needless to say, they didn't.
On Friday 4th, I rang their 0845 number to complain. The bloke was awfully apologetic, and said he'd find out what had happened and ring me back 'within 48 hours'. Needless to say, he didn't.
On the Tuesday, having heard nothing, I rang again, and spoke to a woman who was awfully apologetic, and said she'd find out what had happened and ring me back 'within the next 20 minutes'. And did, to say that she'd been trying to ring the sorting office but no-one appeared to be answering the phone. She said she'd carry on trying, and 'escalate' the matter, and get back to me when she had something to report.
Five days later, having heard nothing, I had received a card for another failed delivery, so I went to pick that up, taking the original card with me. 'not here mate, sorry.' They gave me a compensation form, which I filled out as far as I could, and would have posted on Monday. But I couldn't, because they're on strike.

This, I said, is what the Post Office call 'failing to return within the specified period. Then I said something a bit rude about them.

CycleWorld got back sympathising, and said they'd put a credit of £4.99 in my account!
