I can't do my usual ride. The roads around Western-Under-Lizard are closed due to the V Festival, (Man, is it going to be muddy in there), so I'm off to see what some other roads are like post storm.

About 6.45 yesterday Mrs Cube shouted at me to look out of the window. The house looks due South, and a massive bank of thundercloud was heading our way. We can see clear across about five miles of valley towards Holme Moss and Derbyshire, and you could see the rain as a massive grey curtain as it made its way towards us. It was virtually impossible to see where the cloud ended and the rain began. It was flashing and we could hear plenty of thunder rumbling away. As it got to within a quarter of a mile or so the first drops started to hit the windows, and within a minute we couldn't see out of the windows at all. This lasted a good couple of minutes before the downpour passed us heading for @classic33

I absolutely love thunderstorms, which is just as well, because from up here you get to see some truly spectacular displays. Most memorable was when we were in the middle of three tremendous storms, one over head more or less with all the drama of instant thunder in amongst a downpour, one off to the Northwest over Calderdale, and another, long, drawn out and with an awesome aerial display of cloud to cloud stuff which was way off to the South East. That one went on for hours, and a check on the web showed that it was centred over East and South Yorks/Lincs.
