Just had a new Tiagra compact fitted and the whilst fitting the mechanic (who's a mate) had to set up the front mech.

The front mech is now set up where there seems to be a very small click which I'm told is a trimming mechanism and the larger click (on the follow through) completes the change.

My query is that the trimming needs to be engaged now (while on the big ring) in any lower gear than 6+ (obviously on a 9 speed).

Before, I didn't even now there was a trimming mechanism, let alone need it. My mate told me that my front mech was bent and he had to bend it back to shape. I thought this might have been the case as when I looked at the mech, it looked somewhat distended (looking down at the two sides of the mech looked like it had been pulled apart).

My question is, should the mech need trimming in the gears that it does - is this normal etc?
