I've still got the red tie I bought for my wedding to Mrs SJ Mk1 in 1982. It is pressed into service now and again when I can't get out of dressing formally. I also have a few black ones from the days I had to wear a uniform which are handy for funerals.

So. I have a very nice shirt, expensive, smart. However it is blue and white striped. That means I am struggling to find a tie that makes the ensemble continue to look smart, expensive. I do have a wool, maroon tie that I bought in an old fashioned tailor's shop in Clitheroe a few years ago (think Mr Benn).

Would this tie in the opinion of the jury "match"?

I went next door to ask Mr Benn, but he was just getting changed, again! ^_^

Bold striped shirts really need a plain silk tie, but you can pick from quite a wide range of colours for the tie. Light striped / pinstripe shirts will go with a bold striped tie in a complimentary colour.

Wool ties are out, unless you're trying to get the whole "retired Lieutenant Colonel" look. Mustard cords, Barbour jacket and Hunter wellies complete that outfit.
