I went to a few punk gigs back in the day and getting covered in gob is never going to be my idea of fun.

The mods and rockers battles were a 60s thing. It wasn't really an issue in the late 70s when the mods had its renaissance apart from one or two skirmishes due to the impressionable audience of Quadrophenia when it was released.
