Following on from my slippery surface accident on Thursday i skidded yesterday. This time it was turning left where i encountered a stream of water and some shale. The back end went though i managed to unclip in time so i stayed upright. I've looked at my rear tyre, the tread has worn off about 1cm width but the rest is ok. Should i replace it or could i swap it with the front one which is virtually new, and use the part worn one on the front.? Would that be safe?

Id swap it to be safe. I had the rear of mine wear to the puncture strip. Quickly swapped that one out!

No. Get a new tyre. What you can't risk is a catastrophic failure (blow out) on the front. That will be extremely hard to control and could end badly. If you have a 'best' tyre, it should be on the front.

I ditch mine when they start to square off because they begin to lose wet cornering at that stage. I don't wait for the coloured strip to wear through or for punctures to arrive. Tyres are mission-critical, so I don't skimp.
