Tips for following Tour de France

Has anyone been around following le Tour before for the full duration? I was thinking of a 'Max & Paddy' style camper van trip, not necessarily doing every stage but picking the best of the route.

Just curious if anyone has done it, could give any tips or recommend a camper van hire company!!

I would try one of the motorhome forums such as motorhomefacts or motorhomefun and there is lots of advice on them about the best places to stop, things to avoid and so on.
