It’s astonishing how many people are saying thank god it’s over in the uk & USA. I’ve never seen this in my life before. Things have shifted.
At least children will enjoy it if they have parents who love them so will create the magic.

If people honestly think that then they need to change how they do Christmas, personally I’m a little sad it’s over, we have had both kids home spent a lot of time with family, played cards, board games etc.

However FB is full of people who seem to hate absolutely everything, new bus lanes, a new supermarket opening, and especially anything that brings people joy. Perhaps all these miserable people should spend Christmas together, they might cheer up a bit.

I think it's also about the company you keep, and how many obligations for gifting and hosting that you take on. Everyone has a different point at which it becomes a burden.

That was beautifully illustrated by the Good Life Christmas Special that was on TV Christmas Eve. I had a right laugh watching it, but really, the sentiments ring oh-so-true. Tom and Barbara's Christmas is much more my cup of tea to Margo and Jerry's.

Admittedly as mum's gotten older, more of the general stuff that needs doing has devolved onto me, so I have been quite busy. Although putting a hole in my leg this year hasn't exactly helped... That said, when I've been sat by the fire in the evening, with just the light from the tree and in the company of the cat, with either carols or cricket on the radio, a brew and some nice snacks, it's just been purrfect.

How much of that is due to it seemingly (to me at least as a non-participant) having been started earlier and 'pushed' harder than in previous years.

Yeah, I think that's a big factor. Festive stuff is already in the shops before the kiddies have even finished their summer hols, folks just don't get the time to breathe.

The other, IMHO, is the "idealised Christmas" pushed in the press, in TV ads and on social media. There's that pressure to have that perfect Christmas and to keep up with the Joneses, when quite frankly, it's perfectly fine to say no, step back, and keep things simple.
