I was speechless when I noticed that this morning!

Yes, they've forgotten to write 'seriously, this means there might be a bike here' underneath the cycle symbol, for the benefit of dozy peds ;)

*Is* that a mistake...or are they trying to indicate a symbol from any direction?

its possible they want peds to see a bike symbol no matter which direction they are walking and will leave the direction of traffic issue to the cyclist.

I didnt watch the full vid, but it looks like the change back and forth regularly.

is this a possibility?

Any news about the cycle lanes in Hyde Park which stop short of the exists at Marble Arch and the police enforcement recently? Are there any plans to extend the lanes so cyclists don't have to dismount for 3 meters? The lanes should never have been put in if they stop where they do. Couldn't imagine a road layout done this way. I wonder what the "non" thinking was behind this bizarre layout.

AND? Jeez some people would moan they wanted a £5 note if you gave them 5 £1 coins, at least it has been resufaced, more of a concern is the fact that the guy on the bent in the front group didnt even bother to yield to 2 oncoming cyclists, and just doggedly sat 2 abreast forcing them wide? yet no one commented on that

It does switch all the way up. i was thinking it might be, as you suggested, more for pedestrians than cyclists. Before i don't think there where any markings apart from at start and end, everybody pretty much knew to cycle on the left.

I think you're assuming things you shouldn't be. I'm most pleased with the resurfacing, far more so than with the failed markings. The failed markings will still be a problem though, because sooner or later that will confuse riders and some will be riding on the wrong side and likely cause a collision.

As for arallsop's riding, I'll leave that to him to comment. I don't remember the squeezing as it appears in the video.

So those riding on the wrong side, as per the squeezing clearly evident in the video, will need the markings to ensure they dont ride as per the video.

Glad thats cleared that up then, and I dont recall making any assumptions, I stated an opinion in the first instance, then stated a fact in the second! which you agree with as per your squeezing comment above. And whether you remember it or not is irrelevant, its there in the video, so in this instance the serial video users have shot one of their own, a blue on blue I think.

Yes, I noticed that. Bit rude I thought.

Here, have a chill pill. *proffers*

MMMMM so its all good to moan about something that really doesnt matter that much, then when the poor riding of one of your colleagues is pointed out its all take a chill pill, smacks of hyprocrisy.
Of course when you were "rendered speechless", whilst out on your ride you could have taken a chill pill, and this post would not have happened to this degree and your hyprocrisy would not now be in the public domain!

Still not to worry its just a bit of banter

LOL, I'm not the one getting all mouthy about it. I didn't perceive a problem at the time, although the video shows different. There's no hypocrisy here, just a chip on your shoulder. I'm not denying or arguing with his riding in the video, I'm simply leaving that one for you and arallsop to debate.

As for the painted signs not being a problem, they most certainly are. If you rode in the park, you'd realise just how many collisions happen through misprediction and riding/skating on the wrong side.

Yup. My bad. I don't recall the pinch being an issue at the time, so perhaps I need to sharpen up my awareness a little. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Anyway, I think this whole spin off discussion is a pretty good indicator for someone sorting out the direction signs, tbh. Without getting all anal about it, at least 3 of the prior markings would suggest I was in the correct position

A point well made by the posts to date, I feel.

Perhaps it is all a bit of a storm in a teacup though. Friendly nods were passed between us and the oncoming cyclists, and to my (admittedly limited) knowledge, neither party left the scene thinking anything other than 'oh good. another bike. that's a good thing'.

Keep riding.
