Bare minimum is pump, kit and one or two tubes - usually two road tubes because they are small. Usually have a chain splitter too. Also bit of sandpaper/thin card if the tyre ever splits.

Thanks, I always did carry a kit and some tools on my hybrid was just hoping to downsize on the new bike. I looked at some pumps today and there are as people have said some nice light small pumps out there. Think i'll just have to pick one now.
On my road bike, I carry two water bottles - one with juice, the other packed with an inner tube, levers, multi-tool. I carry a mini-pump in my back Jersey pocket.

The bottle I drink out of is a 500ml job, the other bottle is one of those slightly larger sized one ( 750ml I think ) and I bung all my tools, tubes and CO2 pump in there. Saves stuffing the Mini-Wedge under the seat full.
Then again, sometimes I find the mobile phone is the best way to get a puncture fixed ( as long as the missus is available with her car ).
Thanks for all your help and advice as usual, I now have in my possession a Specialized Air Tool Road because of it's minimal appearance and it seems well made especially for a tenner!

Used mine a couple of times in anger lately - it certainly does the job. Just remember to hold the pump onto the valve as you get to higher pressures and you'll be fine.
